About the Role

We are seeking a Director of Culinary R&D to join our growing team! This person will work closely with the VP of Food Experience (FoodX) to continue refining our Innovation and Enterprise R&D processes to reflect the standard to which we hold our client partners. Because we commit to providing those client partners with world-class support in all areas, especially in the brands and menus that we provide to them, our R&D department must operate at the very highest level. The impact you will have:

  • Manage and guide both the Innovation and Enterprise R&D processes, leading a team that a) develops new products in the form of dynamic, creative virtual menus for restaurant partners of all types across North America and b) builds undeniably delicious, craveable menus that live and operate within the parameters of some of the country’s best-loved restaurant chains’ existing menu offerings ... all optimized for delivery
  • Create a model that prioritizes Innovation and Enterprise R&D functions based on demand, dividing and allocating responsibilities between teams to optimize output, both for quantity and quality
  • In collaboration with the VP of FoodX, Nextbite Brand Development department, and Nextbite Executive Leadership team, shepherd the pipeline of new concept ideas from inception to ideation to expression, prioritizing those concepts that show promise for operational excellence, growth, and profitability
  • Represent Nextbite alongside the VP of FoodX at Enterprise pitch and ideation meetings, contributing deep operational and concept expertise in line with the goals and values of those Enterprise-level partners
  • Hold Operational and P&L responsibility for all functions at the R&D and Fulfillment Test Kitchen facilities, actively managing location leadership to optimize performance to goal, continuing to collect impactful data on concepts, operations, and profitability
  • Ensure high levels of collaboration with executive peers by proactively engaging across the organization as the Keeper of the Culinary Concepts
  • Balance Nextbite’s strategic vision against controlling the details of the process, people, tools, and infrastructure
  • Hire/fire responsibility for the R&D team
  • Report performance metrics to the Senior Leadership team
  • Collaborate with departments across the company to build best practices and optimize adoption of technology and systems
  • What you bring to the role:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a range of food service roles, including manufacturing, restaurants, institutional dining, and CPG development
  • Proven track record of team-building and leadership across a range of functional areas
  • Meaningful combination of practical experience and education
  • Nimble, adaptable mindset, willing to pivot at a moment’s notice but able to resist change where warranted by circumstance
  • Collaborative, positive, and appropriate attitude, even under challenging circumstances
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to hold fierce conversations that drive candor
  • High degree of professionalism, sound human resource management capabilities, business acumen, energy, and determination
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to set and meet deadlines with quality results
  • Ability to manage the pressures of simultaneously coordinating a wide range of activities and recommending and executing appropriate solutions to a variety of problems
  • Proven passion for recruiting, hiring, and retaining exceptional talent
  • History of making data-driven decisions, both large and small
