Senior Compensation Manager

Carbon is looking for a Compensation Manager who is an independent thinker and a self-starter, able to roll up your sleeves and get into the details of day to day compensation. You will provide consultative, technical, and analytical guidance to partners in the business, Finance, and People Team. By pairing your skills with the ability to pivot in a fast-paced startup environment, you will be a key player on our Total Rewards team.  


  • Function as an advisor and point person for all things compensation
  • Maintain our job leveling and continue to improve our compensation framework to ensure fairness and consistency across the company
  • Design total compensation programs that help attract and retain top talent leveraging competitive market pay, equity, short term incentives, sales compensation, spot bonuses, etc.
  • Partner with and consult with the Chief People Officer on executive compensation programs, corporate equity strategy, and Compensation Committee deliverables
  • Consult with People Business Partners and managers on job evaluations, including proposed salary adjustments and promotions to ensure we stay true to our established guidelines, policies, and practices
  • Partner closely with Recruiters and People Business Partners on position leveling and relevant market compensation for reqs and offers to ensure both internal and external equity
  • Work with the business to prepare and maintain standardized job descriptions and conduct FLSA and EEO reviews to ensure company compliance
  • Act as the compensation lead in our annual merit and equity cycle planning and process including determining the company merit and incentive budget in partnership with Finance, as well as recommending appropriate comp planning tools
  • Complete benchmark salary surveys and manage our ongoing relationships with survey providers 
  • Design and analyze costs and impacts of pay programs
  • Create efficiencies by identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement to existing processes and procedures
  • Requirements:

  • 8 years of previous compensation experience in a rapid growth environment, knowledge of global compensation and sales compensation is preferred
  • Ability to research information and analyze data to arrive at valid conclusions, recommendations, and plans of action
  • Ability to model, cost and explain unique and complex compensation scenarios and programs
  • Highly consultative approach to solving problems with the ability to make independent decisions 
  • Deep subject matter expertise, including market trends and thought leadership
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain and present technical topics to all levels of employees 
  • Team oriented with collaborative style; able to maturely handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Proven experience partnering and collaborating well with People, Finance, and the business
  • Highly skilled at analytics (advanced Excel skills at minimum), data visualization, organization, critical thinking
  • Proficiency with human capital management and running reports (preferably Oracle Fusion ERP), Confluence, GSuite, and presentation tools (Powerpoint, Google Slides)
