Senior Front End Software Engineer
Any US state
Located in Redwood City HQ - or Remote

Working at the intersection of hardware, software, and molecular science, Carbon is committed to delivering on the promise of 3D printing, enabling commercial customers to go beyond basic prototyping to producing products with real-world applications. With our cutting-edge technology, we are seeing customers innovate and manufacture parts with unmatched reliability, speed, and quality.

You’ll be joining a close-knit team, working with experts in 3D geometry, web technologies, cloud infrastructure, firmware, and everything in between. We’ve had fun team activities where we escape rooms (real and virtual), play games, and cook delicious food. We also have a variety of employee-started communities at Carbon: baking, bootcamp, yoga, gaming, book club, diversity groups, and many more that you can participate in, and maybe even start your own!

Carbon is looking to hire an amazing engineer to help build our customer-facing software, primarily focused on single-page browser applications that enable users to visualize, manipulate, print and manage complex digital 3D models.

You'll be working with a small team on extending our component library and improving our build & test infrastructure. You will work with our product and UX team to design, build, test, deploy and maintain new user experiences. Depending on your interests, you'll also get to work on complementary back-end technologies in different languages, both on local hardware (e.g. 3D printers) and cloud configurations.

You will...
Build complex web applications using modern JavaScript frameworks, including React.js, Node.js / Express / Ruby on Rails, and grpc/protobuf, that help users design, prepare and print digital 3D models.

Optimize browser performance to provide a great user experience. We render and process models with millions of triangles in under a second.

Work closely with a small team of engineers, product managers, and UX/UI designers to architect, design, and implement user interfaces that delight our customers.

Mentor, educate, and support those around you, as well as being mentored by other engineers.

You have...

  • Expert knowledge of JavaScript.
  • Strong experience with HTTP, HTML, CSS and web security concepts.
  • Experience with a modern front-end framework (React, Angular, Vue) -- we use React.
  • Experience and passion in building beautiful and complex web applications.
  • Experience with the JavaScript unit testing frameworks
  • Strong communication, debugging, and problem solving skills.
  • Bonus points for ...

  • Experience using Typescript
  • Experience using Three.js / React-Three-Fiber
  • You do not need to match every listed expectation to apply for this position. Here at Carbon, we know that diverse perspectives foster the innovation we need to be successful, and we are committed to building a team that encompasses a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and skills.
