Carbon is looking for an extraordinary research scientist to develop novel materials for our 3D printing platform. Materials are at the core of what we do. Our materials are used for applications such as prototyping, dental, biomedical, automotive, aerospace, footwear, sports equipment, and many more. You will work as part of a cohesive and high-energy team, but also direct individual projects and have the freedom to execute as you see fit.
This role is based in Redwood City, and not remote.
Responsibilities: Develop, formulate and test new polymer formulations to be used in the production of resins for 3D printingUnderstand structure-property relationships of polyurethane and UV curables, and utilize DOE (Design of Experiments) to find optimal formulations to meet customer requirementsPrint formulations to understand how printing parameters and liquid and cured properties of resins affect the outcome of the product, with a strong focus on how to improve the printing speed.Understand consistency of resins and study long term stability, and help set specs
Requirements:The ideal candidate should be a motivated, passionate individual who can work collaboratively with excellent communication skills in a dynamic team.Bachelors Degree with a background in polymer science, chemistry, materials science, and/or chemical engineering.Hands on experience preparing formulations (wet chemistry), and attention to detail.Experience with UV-curing chemistry and/or polyurethane chemistry preferred.Strong analytical skills with good data tracking and presentation ability. Safety conscious individual who actively promotes safe behavior in the department and takes responsibility for safe lab operations
