Senior Manager, Electrical and Firmware Engineering

Reporting to the Vice President of Hardware Engineering, this position requires a technically broad, creative, and hands-on leader. The ideal candidate will technically own high-level parts of the system and be an integral part of the Engineering team, fostering Carbon’s values and culture. The candidate will also grow the team to develop and support Carbon’s expanding line of innovative products.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership of the Electrical and Firmware design team, working cross-functionally with other groups both in Engineering and Operations to specify system requirements, define architectures, implement designs, troubleshoot issues, and launch great products.
  • Lead, manage, and develop Carbon’s team of electrical and firmware engineers through early prototyping, design and bring up, and deployment to Carbon’s Operations team.
  • Support the team with issue debugging down to the schematic or code level.
  • Drive down-selection of features and bug resolution based on prioritization of needs and risks.
  • Partner with the Software Engineering team to create a complimentary firmware development process.
  • Specification, design, and implementation of system and board-level electronics including analog, digital, and high-speed circuits.
  • Develop best practices and tools to enable team excellence and incubate new technologies to evolve Carbon’s products.
  • Work with the Operations team to develop test fixtures and specify manufacturing test requirements.
  • Plan program budgets and resources to balance team loading.
  • Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Engineering, 10+ years of related technical experience, 5+ years of team management.
  • Proven capability in developing and deploying embedded PCB designs using microcontrollers and FPGA architectures.
  • 5+ years experience writing firmware in C/C++ for commercial products
  • Experience with digital circuit design and various communication protocols such as I2C, UART, etc.
  • Experience with power circuitry such as motor controllers or lighting controllers.
  • Experience working with external partners and manufacturers
  • Experience with Altium Designer, Jira, and PLM Tools
