Carbon is looking for an enthusiastic and passionate research scientist to join the Characterization team. Qualified candidates will have a diverse background and experience in physics or engineering relevant to Carbon’s technical challenges. The applicant’s strong applied physics and materials science background should enable him/her to work across multiple groups including formulation, print development, resin quality and application development.
The ideal candidate should have experience creating custom instrumentation and characterization methods to answer fundamental questions. We are looking for a candidate who is creative with characterization techniques and method development and has a keen eye for detail and high expectation for data quality and integrity. This candidate should be highly critical to data analysis and interpretation. Potential areas for focus will be in situ characterization of our printing process and its interactions with resin materials, colloidal stability physics and modeling, and dynamic performance and understanding of lattices.

Responsibilities:
Create custom instrumentation, characterization methods, and modeling to understand fundamental phenomena related to broad topics including print characterization, dynamic impact of lattices, or resin stability.Advise on method development, data quality and interpretation.Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets.Build tools to automate data collection and analysis to enable learning and team efficiencyRequirements:
Doctoral level education in applied physics, optics, electrical engineering or polymer physics/chemical engineering; Outstanding BS/MS level with 10+ years industrial experience will also be considered. Preference for candidates who have at least two years post graduate industrial experience.Ideal candidate has experience creating custom instrumentation and characterization methods.Breadth of topics ranging from dynamic impacts, polymerization kinetics, colloidal stability, in situ photo-measurementsProficient in experimental design and method developmentExperience relating collected data to physics models and interpretation of models in reallife observationsExperience in techniques including DMA, DSC, TGA, IR, particle size analyzer, and rheometryProficient in Python, data science principles, statistical analysis (JMP) and CADClearly communicates highly complex math and physics concepts to an audience of multidisciplinary backgroundsCan appropriately manage multiple projects simultaneously and communicates well with product managersYou do not need to match every listed expectation to apply for this position.
